With the occasion of the 2011 Tokyo Motor show, Subaru has presented a new concept called the “Advanced Tourer” alongside the usual Impreza and the new BRZ.
The press release sent by the car maker presents a station wagon “situated” in the compact segment with an innovating exterior design and a high degree of usefulness. The propulsion is based on a Boxer engine with direct fuel injection, which is supplemented by a hybrid system without altering the Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system.
The concept car has a length of 4,580 mm, a width of 1,840 mm and a height of 1,430 mm which is very similar to the standard Legacy or Forrester. The engine has a cubic capacity of 1.6 liters and is supercharged with a turbine, also it is engaged with a Lineartronic transmission that has continuous variation. The hybrid system is fueled by a lithium-ion battery. For the moment the technical information regarding this model haven’t been revealed which is something that we were expecting because we are talking of a concept and not a mass produced model.
The guys from Subaru say that the new propulsion system represents the future of their range and that this is their CO2 emissions downsizing approach. The efficiency has been increased and the autonomy has been increased dramatically. The new Boxer engine generation is promising in the acceleration domain where acceleration is better handled and without wasting precious fuel. The hybrid system has been optimized to assist braking and to help the traction control in all the situations.
